Ashley’s focus is grounded in securing remedies for marginalized students, parents, and teachers when rules, laws, and policies are violated. Her passion for education is fueled by her experience as a student in one of the best school districts in Dallas County and a student at one of the worst school districts in Dallas County. As a result, she obtained tacit knowledge about the inequalities that exist within the educational system, which ultimately provided her with a unique view on the educational system early on.
Ashley’s commitment to equitable outcomes for marginalized groups is solidified through the work she is not paid. Ashley has served on boards for organizations serving students ageing out of the public school system and students who have experienced the loss of a parent due to deportation or incarceration. Additionally, Ashley was recognized as a next generation leaders of the NAACP and has participated in fellowships focused on leaders committed to serving Black and Brown students.
